What is Lotto Max? A Canadian lottery game with large jackpot prizes
Lotto Max, also known as Lotto 6/49 in some jurisdictions, is a popular Canadian multi-jurisdictional lottery game that offers one of the largest jackpots among its peers. It is operated by Loto-Québec and distributed across several provinces in Canada, including Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Lotto Max Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, and the territories.
How Lotto Max Works
Lotto Max is a six-number game where players must select six numbers from a pool of 50. The game offers a unique draw format, with draws held every Tuesday and Friday evenings at 10:30 PM Eastern Time (ET). The minimum jackpot starts at $2 million, but it can roll over to much larger amounts if there are no winners in the top prize category.
Each player selects six numbers from one to forty-nine on their ticket. Players can choose between two play styles:
- Standard Play : Players select six distinct numbers for each draw.
- Quick Pick : The lottery terminal generates a set of six random numbers for the player.
Players who match all six winning numbers and at least three of the bonus balls win the top prize, known as Lotto Max Jackpot or J’oue (French term). If there are multiple winners in this category, they share the jackpot equally.
